Hangzhou Grand Theatre

    Designed by internationally known Canadian architect Carlos Ott., Hangzhou Grand Theatre covers 100,000 square meters with a total construction area of 55,000 square meters. It consists of an opera house, a concert hall, a multifunction hall, an open air stage and a culture square.

    Being one of China's most modern cultural showplaces and Hangzhou City's premier event venue, Hangzhou Grand Theatre is famous for its unique architecture, perfect performing function and advanced stage design.

    The silky titanium roof symbolizes the pearl; the slant surface made of the double curved glass curtain wall represents the moon; a pool of over 6000 square meters in front of Hangzhou Grand Theatre stands for the beautiful West Lake. Hangzhou Grand Theatre —— a jewel in the crown of Hangzhou City, the beloved venue will provide an international stage for artistic genius to show their talents and symbolize the pinnacle of musical achievements and the heights of artistic endeavor. Already recognized as one of the outstanding landmarks, Hangzhou Grand Theatre welcomes artists and audiences from both home and abroad.

    To ensure the performing effect , Hangzhou Grand Theatre has adopted shield technology of electronic communication to prevent any electronic interference during the performance .

Opera House

    Located in the center of the building and looking like a U shape, the Opera House has altogether 1600 seats, including 1000 stall seats and 600 balcony seats with red color as its basic tune. The stage-mouth being 18 meters wide, 12 meters high, 24 meters deep and with a space height of 29 meters, the stage of the Opera House has a total construction area of 2000 square meters. The use of Wenger sound reflection equipment makes it possible for the Opera House to hold not only large-scale song-and-dance drama, but also large-scale concert. It is equipped with the stage machinery which includes vertically movable stage, horizontally movable stage, revolving stage, and orchestra elevator. Armed with the world's first-class sound control system imported from the USA, Hangzhou Grand Theatre has realized the sharing of recording system among the Opera House, the Multifunction Hall, and the Concert Hall. With a double electricity supply system of 1248 lighting channels, the Opera House has a total stage lighting capacity of 1600KW. Adopting American ETC obsession type II equipment, its general lighting adjustment control system is able to produce all kinds of lighting effects.

    The Opera House has already successfully received Berlin Orchestra Symphony, National Ballet of China, Beijing People's Arts Theatre, Hubei Song and Dance Theatre, Zhejiang Song and Dance Troupe, Hangzhou Song and Dance Troupe, Zhenjiang Arts Theatre, Hangzhou Shaoxing Opera Troupe,and has already presented the drama: North Street and South Yard , the dance drama: Sister Drug , Jade Bird , the ballet: Red women Army , Raised the Red Lantern , the large-scale opera: Hong Lake guerilla , the music drama: happy salesman , Shaoxing Opera: Liuhua Brook , Love of Pear Blossom , and the first floor show for workers coming from outside Hangzhou City.

Concert Hall

    Designed as a classical shoe box, the concert hall has totally 600 seats with blue color as its basic tune. It is mainly intended for small-sized performance, like chamber music and personal concert. There is an elevator in the center of the stage, through which the piano can go up and down. All the seats of the backstage are provided for the chorus. The Concert Hall possesses a Steinway piano with 9 feet, which is a world's top-quality piano. Based on acoustic principle, internal design of the Concert Hall has perfect sound-amplifying effect. Its speed of reverberation test can reach 1.4 seconds, and makes it possible to hold the performance with natural voice .Up till today, the Concert Hall has successfully received numerous famous musicians and orchestras, such as American Saxophone, Italian Paul Weigery, Germany pianist Igor Kamenz, etc.

Multifunction Hall

    Breaking through the traditional mode, with 400 seats, lifts and chairs that can be turned up and down, the Multifunction Hall can achieve the flexibility of space arrangement according to specific requirements. In other words, the whole stage and audience seats can be moved and it is an adjustable hall. For example, when a stage is needed to be in the middle of the hall, all the hidden floor can be turned up, and vice versa. In short, depending on the specific situation of performance and conference, the stage and the audience seats can be adjusted accordingly. The Multifunction Hall is an ideal place for small-sized drama, press conference, and fashion shows. Such advanced technology is rarely used in multifunction hall in China.

Open Air Stage

    With the performing stage surrounded by the seats, and the whole stage surrounded by a water-pool with a total accommodation of 1000 people, the Open Air Stage imitated ancient Roman classical style of architecture. Hangzhou Grand Theatre is equipped with a complete set of mobile sound and lighting system for the open-air performance.

Other supporting facilities

VIP Room

    VIP Room can be found on the first and third floor, as a relaxing room for important persons who come to watch performance or join conference. Large PDU screen is specially provided for live show.

Actors' Rest Room

    Actors' rest room offers TV screen for live show and is installed with direct drinking-water system.

Actors' Dressing Room

    There are 31 actors' dressing rooms which can be used for more than 60 people at the same time.

Western Restaurant

    Located on the fifth floor, Western Restaurant offers various kinds of western style food, and provides delicate dinning environment. On the balcony of the restaurant, guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Qiantang River.

Audience Lobby

    Audience Lobby provides rest rooms and direct drinking-water system for the people who come to watch the performance or join the conference.

Cloakroom
